James F. Rill, AIA

Nineteenth-century architecture, from the Arts & Crafts movement to the Romanesque Revival buildings of architect Henry Hobson Richardson, first influenced Jim Rill’s career path. “I was always drawn to the creative side of architecture with its intricate details,” Rill relates. “Today, I’m also inspired by technological advances in the industry.”

Formed in 1987, Rill Architects designs custom homes, renovations and additions in a range of styles. “Whether traditional or modern or something in between, we are dedicated to creating ‘naturesque’ homes,” Rill observes. “Our designs are based on connecting with the exterior surroundings, including views and indoor-outdoor settings. It’s all about the orientation of the home to the land and the connection between the two.”

Rill and his team work closely with clients to create spaces that respond to their unique personalities, lifestyles and values—while also implementing sustainable practices and products.  “Listening, caring, understanding and collaborating are key to a successful outcome,” Rill notes. “We communicate the process clearly from the beginning to keep clients aware of any challenges that arise. We keep our eye on the end goal: to ensure clients love their finished homes.”

Rill Architects has received recognition via more than 200 published articles and awards.
